Bad Beauty and Style Advice: Common Myth #2

Bad advice is everywhere. To stick out from the crowd, it’s important to separate the good advice from the bad. In my last post, I started a conversation about common beauty and style mistakes that, without a person’s knowledge, can add years of age to their look, and how NeriumAD can help. Let’s take a look at another common myth that can age your appearance:

Myth #2: You have to dress and look your age.

Well, this is a half myth. Sure, not everyone should be wearing neon tube tops and muscle shirts. Not that this always looks attractive. But, you shouldn’t dress in a style that is drab or outdated because of perceptions about what age should wear what, as this is unflattering as well. No matter what a person’s age is, the wrong clothes will add years to your appearance. Those who divide clothes into categories of old and young rather than flattering and unflattering not only limit their wardrobe, but may just look older than they are in an effort not to wear anything too “young.” There’s a much simpler way to go about this. You should also dismiss any expectation to completely ignore any other insecurity about your appearance just because of an expectation to “look” your age. Everyone ages differently, and you need to do what makes you happy. As long as you’re not ignoring the person you are on the inside, there’s nothing wrong with self-improvement.

Correction: Think in terms of body shape, personal style, and situation.

Don’t limit yourself by making a hard and fast rule out of dressing according to age ranges. After a little experimentation, you may even find yourself surprised after trying on clothes you thought were off limits. The key is to choose clothes that are appropriate for the situation and fit you well. In fact, you could say that choosing clothes that flatter your shape is more important than style. The basics like black dresses, neutral slacks, and other everyday pieces are always in style if they fit well. To build up your wardrobe from there, forget about dressing according to any sort of type. Just pick out what you like. Wearing clothes that aren’t “you” brings down your comfort and confidence, which others will notice. Nothing’s more flattering than clothes that fit both your body and your personality, and owning your outfit will put a youthful skip in your step. Lastly, pick clothes that are right for the situation. For example, if you go out for drinks right after work, take off that modest office cardigan to show off your trendy yet tasteful blouse in your favorite shade of bold red.

Concerning mature skincare, you will also want to go with the option that is the most emotionally and physically flattering for you—measures like facelifts or Botox aren’t for everyone, and may require a bit of a time commitment. I usually recommend a product that produces real results without requiring any scheduling in your appointment book: NeriumAD Age-Defying Treatment. This is not your typical face cream that will promise miracles and produce disappointment. NeriumAD impressed in clinical trials, using Nerium oleander’s powerful anti-aging properties to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with just one application a day. Great-looking skin is the perfect accessory to your lively, flattering wardrobe, allowing you to look as youthful on the outside as you feel on the inside.
